Design a Glossy Photoshop Web 2.0 Logo - Orb Style!

Adding a web 2.0 style logo added into your website template is a brilliant idea! Here, in this tutorial you will learn how to make a juicy web 2.0 style logo. Creating this logo does not require any filters or effects, it's all about simple!

Now let’s start with a new page size 200X200 pixel. Add a new layer and draw a circle using the Elliptical Marquee Tool

Note: Click on the small arrow below the Rectanglar Marquee Tool to
select the Ellitical Marquee Tool, as by default at the tool bar it only
show the Rectangular Marquee Tool, if you can’t find the Elliptical Marquee Tool.

Now fill the circle selection with a linear gradient green (#c6ff00 to #6db00a) pull the gradient from top to bottom of the circle.

Note: You can select the gradient style at the gradient option bar.

Then hold on to the ctrl-key and click on the layer to give the circle a selection. Then click Select > Modify >Contract by 4px and filled it with a darker green #63a70b. Still having the selection click Select > Modify > Contract and this time give it a 6px. Then move the selection slighty to the top, like the step below.

Press the delete key to delete away the selection so now you have a cresent. Now change the blending mode to Soft Light. Duplicate the layer that have the cresent and lock the transparent layer.

Then fill it with a brighter green #9ddb05 for another set of shadow for the circle, after that unlock the transparent layer and click Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. Now set the layer blending mode to Soft Light as well and the opacity to 50%. Then move the layer to the bottom of the 1st cresent shadow

Now to give the logo some glow, use the brush tool set the diameter to 100px and use select whilte color. Click the brush once at the top left of the logo. Remember to add a new layer for the glow.

Now at the very top of all layers add another new layer for another set of glow. Use the Elliptical Marquee Tool, draw a circle larger than the logo itself and filled it with white color.

After that set the layer opacity to 22% and move it slight lower , just the the step below. Then add a layer mask and mask both corner of the glow, so that it blend in.

Now at the very bottom of all layer, add another new layer for the border of the logo. Make a selection by hold on the control key and click on the first layer which contains the circle. Then click Select > Modify > Expand by 4px and filled the selection with the darker green #94c54e. Now double click the layer to add some drop shadow and stroke effect for the border.

Now for the final steps, lets add some graphic for your logo. Click on the Custom Shape Tool and select the flower shape. Add another new layer between the cresent shadow 2 and the base. Now draw 3 different size of flowers and then set the opacity to 44%. After that make a selection of the base and click Select Inverse and hit the delete key of the flower that are outside the base. And you will have the result as below.

Now that you have a nice flower logo, you can try to add it into your website template. Again the colors and shape can be any thing that you desiire. Enjoy!

Adobe extends Photoshop to mobile phones

Photoshop.com Mobile lets someone with Windows Mobile phones view and upload photos.

Adobe Systems has gradually extended its Photoshop brand from its beginning as high-end image-editing tool to the Elements consumer-oriented photo software and the Express online photo-editing site. Now the company has begun the next step with Photoshop.com Mobile. The software is "the easiest way to upload, view, and share photos online from your Windows Mobile phone," Adobe said.

This software lets people upload photos from their phones to the Photoshop.com Web site and view photo albums stored online, according to the Photoshop.com Mobile site at Adobe Labs. The beta software, a free download for people in the United States, works on some Windows Mobile-based handsets.

If your device isn't supported, the Photoshop.com site recommends using the Shozu mobile phone software, which lets users upload photos, among other things.

Personally, I'd like to see a mobile phone app that could perform some really basic adjustments--cropping or auto-fixing exposure, for example--but so far at least, this isn't that application. But Photoshop itself is about to enter its 11th major version, CS4, and mobile phones are getting more powerful all the time, so the possibility is there.

But more likely, Adobe sees this software as a tool to increase its customers' online activity. Photoshop Express can be used to for those sorts of adjustments, though even high-powered phones such as Apple's iPhone can't yet use it yet. But with gradually increasing network capacity and mobile-phone processing, this market will become much more mature in a few years.

Making Your Own Passport Photos

This tutorial will show you how to take, format, and prepare your own passport photos. Rather than repeating what is already provided, please see the guidelines provided by the US Department of State. These will provide you with information regarding proper lighting, exposure, composition, and size. If you live in another country, please check for guidelines at your passport issuing authority as they will likely differ. For example, in Canada the final size can be as large as 70mm by 50mm, however, it appears as though they require a photo from a professional although that is not absolutely clear. Enough of this, let's get one with the process as it pertains to US requirements.

The original photo

Once you have taken your photo and are happy with the expression and lighting, it's time to make sure the sizes are correct. In the guidelines, it says that the trimmed photo must measure 2 inches by 2 inches and the distance from the chin to the top of the hair must be between 1 inch and 1 3/8 inch. So the first thing to do is to measure the distance between the chin and the top of the head. This is done with the measuring tool.

Select the Measure Tool

We're going to use Photoshop's Measure Tool to measure the distance of interest. The measure tool is hidden under the eye dropper. Click-and-hold on the eye dropper to reveal a pop-out menu and select the ruler at the bottom. Or, press Shift+I on your keyboard to cycle through the icons until the measure icon ruler appears.

Measure the distance from the chin to the top of the head

Using the Measure Tool, draw a line from the chin to the top of the head. (HINT: Holding the shift key while dragging the line will force it to either vertical or horizontal) In the title bar, you will notice three values. The angle "A", the vertical distance "D1", and the horizontal distance "D2". We are interested in the vertical distance which, in this case, is 582 pixels. Now it's time for some math. The distance should be between 1 and 1-3/8 inch, I will use 1.1 inches. Now divide the 582 pixels by 1.1 inches to determine you DPI. In this case, we get 529 DPI (I'll use 530 for simplicity). Since the final photo will be 2"x2", the size of the image will be 1060 pixels by 1060 pixels. (TIP: Many commercial printers will actually increase the size of you picture slightly so that the image bleeds to the edge of the print. If you set the distance to 1-3/8 inch you risk going over the allowed size when printing.)

Cropping to the right size

Choose the marquee select tool from the toolbar. Once the tool is selected, you will see a drop down menu in the title bar allowing you to select a style. Select the Fixed Size option and set the width and height options to 1060 pixels by 1060 pixels (use the values you calculated in the previous step). Then position the box so that the subject's nose is in the center. This will ensure that the eyes are within 1-1/8 to 1-3/8 inches from the bottom. Once the square is positioned, hit CTRL-C to copy the image.

Creating a 4x6 template

In the File menu, select New and set the Preset Size to 4x6 and the Resolution to 530 DPI (use your value), then click OK. This will open a new document with the correct aspect ratio to print a 4x6 and the correct resolution to ensure the photos will be the correct size.

Paste your passport photos to the template

Hit CTRL-V (or select paste from the top menu) to place the photo onto the template. Move the photo to the top. Repeat for the second photo and move it to the bottom. As I mentioned before, commercial printing services may slightly resize your image so make sure the images are not on the edge. You may loose part of it. You are now ready to save the file and sent it to the printer.

The final product

Once you get the photo printed use a trimmer to cut the images to 2"x2" and submit them with your passport application. I printed mine on a Kodak Instant print machine, but if you have a good enough photo printer at home, you could probably use that. Check the State Department website for digital printing information
